Institution of the Lord’s Supper

23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, [a]“Take, eat; this is My body which is [b]broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.

Why the Lord’s Table? Jesus said “Do this in remembrance of Me”
The Lord’s table is to Help us remember Who we are.. Whose..we are.. and Why we are.. In Christ.

I. Who we are in Christ
To help us remember that -
1. We are LOST SINNERS apart from Christ.
2. We are LIVING SAINTS in Christ.
3. We are LOVED SONS in Christ.
4. We are LOOKED-AFTER SHEEP in Christ.

II Whose we are in Christ
To help us remember that -
1. As a CHURC we are the TEMPLE of GOD
2. As individual CHRISTIANS we are the TEMPLE of GOD

III Why we are in Christ
To help us remember that -
1. We are to GLORIFY the LORD.
2. We are to GO for the LORD.

Boasting in the Cross of Jesus Christ

Christ in Our Place

6 For when we were still without strength, [a]in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

Introduction: Paul’s declaration seems odd but nevertheless significant and meaningful, not only to him but to all believers in Christ. The boasting is not so much in the cross itself but in what it represents. In Romans 5:6-11, there are 3 truths about the cross of Jesus Christ that should serve as reasons for Paul’s boasting in the cross as well as ours.

I The Cross of _________________ (vs. 6-8)
On that cross, Jesus died as our Substitute. he died on our behalf.

II The Cross of _________________ (v.9)
On that cross, Jesus paid the price for our salvation. He shed His blood.

III The Cross of _________________ (vs. 10,11)
On that cross, Jesus bridged the span that separated us from God and thereby removed the enmity that existed since the fall of man.

The King of Kings

The Triumphal Entry

21 Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to [a]Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me. 3 And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”

4 [b]All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:

5 “Tell the daughter of Zion,
‘Behold, your King is coming to you,
Lowly, and sitting on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ”

6 So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, [c]and set Him on them. 8 And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread themon the road. 9 Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:

“Hosanna to the Son of David!
‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’

10 And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?”

11 So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”

SERMON NOTES:

Why did Jesus do what He did in the triumphal entry? What is the significance of this? It’s interesting to see that Jesus initiate this event. In a manner of speaking, He initiates His coronation. There is a declaration that He is making here through this event. That He is -

I The _______________ KING
To show us that Jesus is the King of promise who sovereignly and faithfully keeps His Word.
II The ________________KING
To show us that Jesus is the humble King who works through the humble and the weak as His instruments.
III The ________________ KING
To show us that Jesus is the glorious King who, first came as a Saviour and will come again as the Judge

Taking it home:
The KING we serve is the God we worship.

The Gospel is Not Meant to Please Man

Galatians 1:6-12 NKJV

Bear and Share Burdens

6 Brethren, if a man is [a]overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5 For each one shall bear his own load.

Be Generous and Do Good

6 Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches.

7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Glory Only in the Cross

11 See with what large letters I have written to you with my own hand! 12 As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
